Girls' first time fishin'

We tried out the kids' fishing pond down by Twin on Memorial Day. The girls were excited to go fishing, so they did hold unto their poles for most of the time. Until something started messing with it and then it was a quick hand-off!

We weren't there very long before something was messing with Hannah's hook, bobber was bobbin' about. Rodney was busy getting Nicole's pole ready, so Hannah and I reeled it in to make sure the worm was still there.

Yup, this fella took it - hook and all! Since it was hooked somewhere inside, Rodney just cut the line and we let him go. Guess we should've made sure to keep the line away from the shore. Never crossed our minds there would be turtles at the spot.

Girls kept wanting to move. Hardly get the lines in and they were ready for the next spot.

Got to the end of the pond and we finally had some action. Or else we were there long enough for the action to start. :) Wasn't too long and Hannah's bobber went down. After a quick hand-off to Dad, they reeled in a nice trout. While they were busy getting that one off the hook, Nicole's bobber went down. Nicole's fish was a big momma trout. Should've threw her back in 'cause as soon as we reeled her in, she was squirtin' out eggs.

Hannah needed a potty break and by the time we got back, Nicole had caught another one. That worm was good for 2 fish and could've used 'em again, but it was time to go. Headed home and had a fish fry that night.

Weekend at Alan's

Union meeting weekend at the beginning of May, we went to Winifred to see Alan and his new place of work. Weekend was a bit rainy, but it was fun to see where he's at and what he's doing. It's a neat area there, in the Judith River bottoms. We took off Friday, dropped the pickup off at the Ford shop in Butte and stopped in Helena to check out a gun for Rodney. Everything takes a bit longer than planned, so got to Alan's late; had to wake him up to let us in. :) Saturday was spent checking the area out. Sunday we met up with Cyndee and her grandkids at meeting and enjoyed a potluck with the friends there. Stopped at Brian and Becky's for a quick hello and then it was time to hit the road home.

May 2014

Howdy-

May was a busy month, with all the school year end happenings. The last day of school is this Wednesday (4th). We're hoping to have everything done and ready to take off that afternoon for Ronan. At the beginning of this month we took a weekend and went to see my brother Alan, he's up by Winifred. Had a great time checking out his latest job place. He's the manager at a ranch there on the Judith River. Neat area up there. Also had a couple good rain showers at the beginning of the month, but ever since then it's been hot and dry. But last night we got us a good soaking, the rain gauge said 1.3", so June is shaping up to be a good month! Rodney took some kids up to Ronan a few weeks ago to the state forestry and food science contests. They did good. Then it was donkey basketball time (people ride donkeys and try to make baskets - they have to be on the donkey to shoot and they need to take their donkey with them if they get off to get the ball). Rodney got a bit sore, but had fun. FFA banquet finished out the FFA year. Now a new crew of officers are ready to take on the next year. We met up with Dale and Bonnie one Sunday to exchange a heifer for the bull. We haven't brought them to summer pasture yet. We're letting that grass get a head start before bringing all these critters there, so we've been feeding them hay. Have quite a bit left over from last year. Girls sure are enjoying the warm weather, being able to play outside a lot. We got a garden planted, will see if anything grows. Better let this be for now, better get back to my to-do list. :)
